ARTISTIC DIRECTOR'S NOTES

Bill Ivins has either directed, produced, performed in —or in some way worked on — over 35 shows with Stage Right. Other directing credits include the Fox Chapel Area High School, Hampton’s Red Barn, Pittsburgh New Works Festival, and the Fox Chapel Follies (in which he also performs). Bill may even be spotted as an occasional supernumerary with the Pittsburgh Opera. Professionally, he is represented by The Talent Group, and is a freelance graphic designer, illustrator and musician.

Dear Friends,

What an amazing year — so far!

So far, we produced THE LAST FIVE YEARS (written and composed by Jason Robert Brown) to sell-out crowds. The pit musicians were exceptional and so were the performances by Jenna Hayes and Will Docimo.

Then we produced John Cariani’s lovable and quirky comedy ALMOST, MAINE for two weekends in March. Directed by Lora Oxenrieter, this show proved why it is one of the most produced shows in the country. It's a beautiful collection of stories about human relationships — with a little magic thrown in! Bravo and Brava to this extraordinary cast and crew!

The third show in our season will be the Young Artists Summer Musical: THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE, with music and lyrics by William Finn and book by Rachel Sheinkin. The BEE is a Tony Award winning musical that will bring you back to grade school. Spelling was never so much F-U-N. You may even get to test your spelling ability with a chance to be in the Bee! This will be our third year producing a Young Artists musical with its cast made up of high school-aged teens from the region, and a live pit orchestra. This show will run one weekend only:  August 1–4, 2019, and is almost sure to be a sell-out, so be sure to get your tickets early.

A FOURTH production is currently being determined — so please visit us again to see what is happening in the Fall!

But that’s not all! Stage Right is also gearing up for Summer Camps and Special Events!

Our popular Summer Camps for kids will include two sessions:  Intro to Theater and a Shakespeare-themed camp! In addition, we look forward to collaborating with the Aspinwall Riverfront Park to bring to you fun Community Events —watch the website for details and follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter!

Stage Right is an evolving, volunteer-driven community effort bringing theatre to our community for over 50 years. With new leadership, and a re-energized commitment to ensuring artistic growth in our community, Stage Right is very excited to announce new community events with Aspinwall Riverfront Park, and the formation of our Junior Board of Directors. After the success and positive reception of our mentee program for our main stage productions in 2018, we have made the decision to expand our group of Young Artists by implementing a new Board of Directors, comprised of teens in the Fox Chapel Area School District, to help Stage Right continue to reach out to young people who are interested in expanding their theatre experience in a fun, educational environment.

From our main stage productions to our community events, Stage Right is committed to providing a unique, memorable theatre experience to our community with our friend and partner, Aspinwall Riverfront Park. Our 2018 season was one of the most successful in the storied history of our company, and we are very excited for what comes next.

Pittsburgh is a fantastic place for live performance, and Stage Right is proud to be a part of this thriving theatre community. I am SO pleased too, to get to know so many of the wonderful actors and volunteers who make all of this possible.

If you like the theater, and would like to participate, PLEASE let us know! We are always looking for new faces to join in the magic of live performance!

I remain VERY excited about the future of Stage Right!

SEE YOU AT THE SHOW!
